The season

When the fish come in

Every river runs on its own clock, and rain matters more than the calendar. This is how a typical year plays out. We’ll tell you honestly how the water looks before you book.

[June – July]

Early run

Bright fish and the first grilse. Water levels are decided by spring rain.

[August]

Low water

Fish hold in the deep pools. Small flies, long leaders, early mornings.

[September – October]

Fall run

The big fish arrive with the autumn rains, and the hills turn colour. This fills up first.

Good to know

Before you come

Do I need my own gear?

No. We provide rods, reels, lines and flies. Bring your own if you’d like to fish it. Bring waders and boots, or ask us about loaners.

What about licences?

Licenses can be purchased online through the provincial government’s website.

I’ve never caught a salmon. Is that OK?

Absolutely. Plenty of our guests are trout anglers chasing their first one. We’ll work on your spey or single-hand cast as part of the day.
